CARA 2009: Best Mixed Collegiate Album

Hailed by a cappella guru Deke Sharon as the "most ambitious album of the year," Escape Velocity, the newest release from The Stanford Harmonics, received awards and accolades even before its release. The Harmonics' highly-anticipated 8th album pushes the group's commitment to innovation to new heights. By throwing the rule book of collegiate a cappella out the window, the Harmonics have successfully merged top notch musicality with innovation and sheer force, producing an album that defies labels and transcends genres.

On April 1, the Contemporary A Cappella Society awarded Escape Velocity the 2009 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for "Best Album" in the mixed collegiate division. In addition, Harmonics director Charlie Forkish's arrangement of "The Sound of Silence" garnered the "Best Song" and "Best Arrangement" awards. A huge thank you to the Contemporary A Cappella Society and CARA judges, and congratulations to the other winners!
