ROCK our world - Audition for the Harmonics
The Harmonics, along with all of the other a cappella groups at Stanford, hold auditions during the first week of every school year. All members of the Stanford community are welcome and encouraged to audition – the group currently includes both undergraduates and graduate students, and you can try out during any year here; you don't need to be a freshman.
We run each auditionee through some vocal exercises, then have them sing a prepared portion of a song a cappella. This piece can be anything: rock, pop, opera, jazz, "Happy Birthday"...we just want to hear you sing. After the initial round of auditions, we call back a number of auditionees on each voice part, and have them learn their part to a couple of our arrangements, and then sing it with members of the current group. At the end of auditions week, we whisk the new members away on a glorious weekend retreat to an exotic locale.
