Meet the band!
Amanda is this year’s Business Manager and a sophomore majoring in International Relations (yet trying to be a business snake) from the very small far away land of Connecticut. Outside of singing mezzo/alto in the Harmonics, she loves musical theater, baking cookies and banana bread, eating dark chocolate, and having internal debates about what classes to take. She is a die hard Netflix addict, recovering caffeine addict, and cannot decide whether she is a dog or cat person. Interested in booking the Harmonics? Email Amanda at email@example.com.
Hailing from Beijing and Boston, Lily is super excited to be the Music Director of Harmonics this year. While she's not emitting high frequencies, Lily enjoys scheming up new plots for her Model UN conference, mastering the art of social information warfare in the cyberspace, planning birthday surprises, and ingesting copious amounts of dim sum and ramen. Although her dream is to work for the Ministry of Magic one day, Lily hopes to start by fighting for immigrant rights and women empowerment in the muggle world. For group matters, contact Lily at firstname.lastname@example.org..
Kaan is a sophomore tenor from Istanbul, Turkey, serving as the Financial Officer this year. Majoring in Mathematical and Computational Science, he enjoys reading philosophical fiction and complaining about how the Stanford climate has no seasons. He has also tried every café on campus and rated their coffee (ask him about it). If you’re ever interested in Turkish food, looking for someone to talk Renaissance paintings with, or listen to and appreciate classic rock, he’s your go-to person.
Río is a senior majoring in history returning for his third year with the Stanford Harmonics. When he's not creating overly complex board games or reading eighteenth century naval manuals, he can be found playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends. He is excited to be returning as Performance Director and looks forward to using what he learned last year to bring the Harmonics' choreography to the next level.
Born and raised on a farm in southern Illinois, Grayson is a freshman who now finds himself transplanted in a strange land known as ‘California’. Some of his passions include playing the blues guitar, watching horror flicks, eating an inordinate amount of food, and hitting low C’s as a bass with the Harmonics. Grayson is also involved with the Student Space Initiative and hopes to pursue a degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics directly preceding his moving to Mars.
Jonathon is a sophomore who says he's from Michigan. During the day, you can find him studying literature, languages, and other subjects in classes that do not count toward his Earth Systems major requirements. At night, you can find him learning to swing dance, baking with friends, or singing bass and baritone with Harmz. His favorite treats to make are banana bread and fudge, and his favorite bass lyrics are "da da dm dm".
Joshua is a freshman from Alabama who came out west looking for a good time and maybe a gold nugget or two. When he's not busy trying to pursue pre-med requirements or pretending to be a writer, he sings tenor for the Harmonics. If you're after plenty of bad jokes, philosophical conversations about nothing and/or everything, and a person obsessed with all things fantasy, you've probably come to the right guy.
Suah is a freshman from South Korea who likes to ‘get her hands dirty’ sifting through dusty vintage vinyl, lifting barbells, attempting to bake pumpkin spice cake, or digging into a jar of gooey peanut butter. She loves all-things autumn, art, and "fuzzy", and plans to study film studies, film production, and psychology (with creative writing on the side). She is also super into all-things rock, from classic to psychedelic, and although she’s never sung a cappella before, her love of rock singing brought her to the Harmonics!
An environmental geoscience major, HannahZoe enjoys ROCK-ing out the the Harmonics, but would be equally delighted to discuss geopolitics, poetry, or nuclear reactions over a cup of freshly brewed tea. When she’s not exploring mystical forests, one can find her dancing, reading, baking, or trying to learn every language offered at Stanford.
Marvin joins the Harmonics this year as a bass eager to figure out just how long he can get away with pretending that his indecipherable mumbling is actually singing. He plans to study bioengineering, philosophy, and music in an attempt to mold himself into the modern Renaissance man that he wishes he could be. Whenever he isn’t attempting to sing pop music at frequencies extremely unflattering to his voice, he is probably either starting ridiculously abstract arguments for literally no reason or rewatching the Star Wars Original Trilogy for the 892nd time.
Jade loves many things, particularly penguins, alt rock, tea, poetry, and fries. While her major is still undecided, she has a lot of interest in anthropology, medicine, space, and plenty of other things. You can find her running between the one-too-many clubs she joined on campus or running away to the beach for an impromptu road trip. She's very excited to be an alto for Harmz this year.
Hailing from the far away lands of the East Bay, Lauren is a freshman excited to start her fourth year in Harmonics. That’s right, fourth, because Lauren started her own a cappella group in high school called Harmonix. In addition to being a total choir nerd, Lauren enjoys musical theater, biology, binging Netflix, animals, and baking. Although she has tried countless times to be a low bass, Lauren will be producing high frequency sound waves as a soprano. When she is not struggling to balance Harmonics and Chamber Chorale, Lauren loves painting, creating nail art, designing cute outfits, and crying over her chemistry midterms.
Maia is a freshman from Colorado (one of the square ones somewhere in the middle). When she's not singing mezzo soprano in the Harmonics, you can find her creative writing, awkwardly dancing around her room, and eating extraordinary amounts of candy. If you're ever in the mood to obsess over cute animals or obscure YouTube videos, she's your gal.
Mitchell is a die-hard fan of Panic! at the Disco who sings tenor, and sometimes baritone, for the Harmonics. A freshman from Texas, every other day he can be found deciding not to go to the gym even though he has it scheduled on his Google calendar. Mitchell is an intended Theater and Performance Studies major with a background in musical theater. When he is not eating or sleeping, he can be heard singing songs by Panic! or from Sweeney Todd and Les Misérables. He is really looking forward to working and having fun with the group this year, but just don’t threaten him with a good time.
