Rocked the East Coast!

The Harmonics have just returned from touring the East Coast. After beginning in Washington D.C. and working our way up to Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston, we are exhausted but happy. Thanks to all the groups that hosted us, we had a great time! Check back for more photos and details.

The Harmonics are happy to announce that the Contemporary A Cappella Society has awarded them full funding as part of their JAMAA Award program. The award is given to groups who are "furthering the art form" of a cappella music and "breaking the boundaries" of this art form.

BIG SING 2007

The Harmonics are excited to be hosting Big Sing this year on Monday, November 26 at 8pm in Kresge Auditorium. The perfect kickoff to Big Game Week, Big Sing is an a cappella sing-off full of rocking music and raucous school spirit. Featuring 13 a cappella groups from Stanford and Cal, this is a show you won't want to miss. Tickets are $3 presale through your RA, $5 at the door with SUID, and $8 general.

West Coast A Cappella Showcase

We will be performing at the West Coast A Cappella Showcase on Friday, October 26th. The event is from 8-10PM in Wheeler Auditorium at UC Berkeley, and features groups from all over the west coast, including Stanford's Fleet Street Singers, University of Oregon Divisi, and the Berkeley Men's Octet and Golden Overtones. Rockstars Wanted

It's that time of year again; join us for a fabulous week of auditions! First round auditions for the 07-08 group will be held from 4-11pm on Tuesday 9/25 and Wednesday 9/26 in Casa Italiana. Summer Break

The Harmonics have finished up another exciting year and are looking forward to meeting the class of 2011 in the fall! Don’t miss your chance to hear us along with Stanford’s eight other a cappella groups at O-Show, 9pm on September 24th in Memorial Auditorium. Auditions for the 2007-2008 group will be during the first week of classes on September 25th and 26th, with callbacks on the 28th. New Member

The Harmonics are excited to welcome our newest member, Andrew Deeringer! Helping to fill out a tenor section that has fallen victim to illness, Andrew proved his mettle among Harmonics of yesteryear at this weekend's reunion. He has a great voice and a great personality, and we're glad to call him one of our own. To get your very own glimpse of Andrew, come check us out at Thursday's basketball game or the performance with Mixed Company and Brandeis VoiceMale. Harmonics 15-year Reunion

Thanks so much to everyone who came to our 15-year reunion! It was great to have so many alumni there to sing and a full house to sing for. For any of you who missed it or just can't get enough, be sure to order a copy of the DVD at our reunion page, and perhaps a CD or two. Big Sing-off at Cal!

Come join us Tuesday, November 28th for the annual a cappella prelude to Big Game! We will be singing along with many groups from both Stanford and Berkeley, and it promises to be a great night of music and rivalry. The show is in Wheeler Auditorium at UC Berkeley. Tickets are $10 ($5 for all students) and may be purchased online. If you're planning to come up, be sure to reserve yourself a spot!

Audition for Harmonics!

It's that time of year again! Harmonics are holding auditions—so bust out your flashiest black and silver and your rocking attitude, and join us for a week of auditioning fun. The auditions will be taking place on Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday the 27th between 4 and 11 PM. Callbacks will be on Friday the 29th. All auditions will be held in La Casa Italiana (562 Mayfield Avenue – if you're walking up the row from White Plaza it's the fourth house on the right) You can get more information and see a map on our auditions page.

You can sign up for an audition any day through Wednesday in White Plaza between 11 and 3. You can also contact us directly (with any questions or with an audition sign up) by emailing Kay Takamura at kay07@stanford.edu. Can't wait to see you at auditions!

Summer Hiatus

The Harmonics have finished up another exciting year and are currently enjoying a nice relaxing summer vacation. Congratulations to Teresa Ingram, director for the 2006-2007 school year. Auditions for next year will be held September 26-27, during the first week of classes. For more information, check back here later this summer, or email us.

Harmonics Spring Show—May 19th

Come out and join us for our last big show of the year! We will be holding our annual spring show on Friday, May 19th at 7:30 PM in Kresge Auditorium. An original murder mystery musical set on a boat and written by the group, the show will feature most of our repertoire from this year along with some guaranteed laughs. Admission is FREE with SUID! General admission is $5 and tickets will be sold at the door.

Back from Tour

The Harmonics have returned from an exciting, busy, and fun-filled tour to the east coast, where we enjoyed all the greatest tourist sites, fun performances with other college groups and high schools, and unseasonably nice weather that was warmer and sunnier than what we were missing in California. A huge thanks to all of the alumni and fans who met up with us, hosted us, cheered us on at our shows, and supported us in any other way! Thanks also to the other groups we sang with; it was a blast getting to hear you, sing with you, and hang out!

Harmonics on Tour

That's right, the Harmonics are coming to an East Coast city near you! During our spring break from March 25 until April 2, we'll be visiting Washington D.C., New York, Boston, and whatever else in between we can fit in. As always, check our calendar for all the details and latest information!

Harmonics Win A Cappella Community Awards

The Harmonics received the A Cappella Community Awards for Favorite Mixed Collegiate Group and Favorite Scholastic A Cappella Album (Shadowplay). The awards were based on voting by members of the Contemporary A Cappella Society community. A full list of winners can be found at CASA.org.

The Memory Remains selected for BOCA 2006

Shadowplay continues to earn recognition from across the a cappella community. The closing track on the album, The Memory Remains, is featured on the upcoming Best of College A Cappella album. Shadowplay nominated for CARAs

The Harmonics' latest album, Shadowplay, received CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards) nominations for best Mixed Collegiate Album and Mixed Collegiate Solo (Bryan Tan for The Memory Remains). You can see all of the nominations at the CASA website. The final winners will be announced April 1st.

Harmonics Hosting ICCA Semifinals

We will be hosting the Western Region Semifinals for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in Dinkelspiel Auditorium on Saturday, March 18th at 8PM. Come see eight of the best groups from all over the west coast, as well as 'Til Dawn and Oxford's Out of the Blue. Driving directions to Dinkelspiel Auditorium can be found here. Most parking on campus is free on weekends, but be sure to check the posted signs wherever you end up.

Harmonics Competing in ICCA Quarterfinals

Varsity Vocals has released the list of competitors accepted into the quarterfinals of the 2006 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and we're excited to announce that we'll be competing on March 4th at the University of Oregon. We will also be hosting the semifinal round here at Stanford on March 18th. For more information about ICCAs and the individual shows, visit their website.

Mid-year auditions for tenors and basses

If you're a tenor, baritone or bass who loves to sing and wants to join Stanford's rocking-est a cappella group, email our director to arrange for an audition time on Tuesday night, January 17th, or another day if you're unavailable then. If you have any questions, send an email. We're excited to hear you sing!

Faster, Faster featured on SING II

Faster, Faster from Shadowplay has been selected for SING II: An A Cappella Experience, a best-of-a-cappella compilation put out by Alliance for A Cappella Initiatives (AACI). It joins tracks from The House Jacks, Cadence, University of Oregon Divisi and On The Rocks, the Tufts Beelzebubs, and many more. The CD will be available for purchase from us later this year. For now, you can view the full track listing and other information at the AACI website.

Big Sing

The Harmonics hosted the annual pre-Big Game a cappella concert featuring groups from both Stanford and Berkeley on Tuesday, November 15th in Cubberley Auditorium. Thanks to all of the groups from both Stanford and Cal who participated in Tuesday night's Big Sing. The event was a huge success and you all sounded great!

Join us this coming Friday, May 27th at 8:00 PM in Kresge Auditorium for our Spring Show. A brand new, original musical, the event will also feature the release of the Harmonics' sixth full-length album, Shadowplay.

ShamROCK

Our annual tribute to St. Patrick's Day will be held on March 11th, at 7:30 PM in Toyon's main lounge. The show will be free and we have a great guest group: Quasimodal from Wesleyan University. Come out, get a nice study break, and enjoy the show!

ICCA Regional Finals

The Harmonics hosted the regional competition of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella on March 5th. Congratulations to all of the winners, especially University of Oregon Divisi for winning first place in the regional finals, and Stanford's own Caryn Kunz, of Everyday People, for winning Outstanding Soloist in the afternoon competition. Street Singing

The Harmonics will be street singing in downtown Palo Alto on Februray 25th, around 7:30PM. If you're going to be downtown, stop by Lytton Plaza in front of Pizza My Heart to hear us, hopefully with a guest group from Brandeis University.

Harmonics win VSO of the Year

The Harmonics have been recognized by the ASSU Undergraduate Senate as the recipient of the first annual VSO of the Year Award, as a result of contributions to a cappella and the arts on campus, student life, and community service.

Spring Sing

Thanks to Elizabethtown Phalanx and Oxford Out of the Blue for stopping by on their West Coast tours and singing with us at Spring Sing. Spring Tour

The Harmonics are back from an incredibly fun, busy and successful tour of the East Coast! A HUGE thanks goes out to all of the groups, families, and individuals who organized shows, sang with us, gave us a place to sleep, came to support us at shows, and generally made tour possible. We now get back into the swing of things for spring quarter, and hope to see you at some of our upcoming events around the Stanford area.

2004 CARA Awards

Rock Beats Scissors continues to garner recognition and praise throughout the a cappella community, with Lady Marmalade being selected as runner-up for Best Mixed Collegiate Song in the 2004 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards. BOCA 2004

Sadder Day, off of the Harmonics' latest album, Rock Beats Scissors, is featured on the Best of Collegiate A Cappella CD for 2004. The compilation includes 17 more of the best tracks from groups across the nation, and is available now! Contact a group member to purchase or buy online through Mainely A Cappella.

LA Weekend

The Harmonics just returned from Los Angeles after participating in the 3rd annual California A Cappella Festival at UCLA. We had an amazing time—thanks to Random Voices for organizing a wonderful event and to all of the other groups for filling the day with great music and great fun. After a short break these next two weeks to tackle finals, we'll be in the air to the East Coast! Check out the calendar page for a current list of Spring Tour gigs.

Parents' Weekend

Thanks to Everyday People and the University of Michigan Dicks & Janes for joining us in a great show for Parents' Weekend! And thanks also to all the students, parents and others who showed up to enjoy and support all the groups.

ICCAs

The Harmonics competed at the ICCA quarterfinals at UC Berkeley on February 7th, singing Blurry, Die Another Day, and Bring Me to Life. The competition was exciting, and the performance fun. The group is proud of vocal percussionists Ben D'Angelo and Daniel Holbert, who deservingly won the award for best VP. Thanks to everyone who came to support us, and congratulations to all of the other groups, especially University of Oregon Divisi, who took home first place. Praise for Rock Beats Scissors

The Harmonics' most recent album, Rock Beats Scissors, was recently reviewed by RARB. The album held up very well, receiving the best scores yet for a Harmonics CD. It was additionally awarded Honorable Mention in the RARB Picks of 2003. Read the review here, or check out our RBS page for more information or to buy a copy!

ICCAs, here we come!

The Harmonics have advanced to the quarterfinal round of this year's International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. We will be competing live at UC Berkeley on February 7, 2004. Mark your calendars, and come to support us and watch us rock the house!

Harmorganic

The Harmonics were in the studio Nov. 15-16, recording an a cappella radio ad for Whole Foods Market. The advertisement should be playing in the NYC and Boston areas through the holiday season.

Harmonics on Ice

The Harmonics had a great time in Alaska! We sang for and with some local high school students, appeared on two radio stations, visited a glacier, sang with The Nylons in an awesome concert to a sold-out house, and sold many CDs to the wonderful crowd. A huge thanks to the UAA Concert Board for their great hospitality and wonderfully organized show. We hope we get a chance to go back someday!

Big Sing

A yearly tradition during Big Game week, Big Sing was held on November 18th. The event was at Stanford this year, and featured many of the a cappella groups from both schools. For more information, click here. Read about the event in this article from the Stanford Daily.
